The IPL Photofacial with Blu-U® and Levulan® is a non-invasive treatment that can be completed in a short office visit without the need for anesthetics or downtime.  How Does The Treatment Work?

• Intense Pulsed Light (IPL): The IPL system delivers high intensity and smooth pulses of light (not lasers) that penetrate the layers of the skin through a cooled applicator that is gently passed over the area of treatment. This light is absorbed by the relevant chromophores (molecules responsible for color), inflicting minor damaging on them and forcing your body to heal them, thus improving skin tone and rejuvenating your overall appearance.
• Levulan® Kerastick®: Levulan is a topical solution (aminolevulinic acid HCl) applied to your treatment area in order to make the skin more sensitive to the light therapy, accelerating and optimizing the results of the IPL treatment.
• Blu-U® Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy: The Blue light is used to activate the Levulan® solution which then targets blemishes and lesions. The result is similar to a sunburn-type reaction that lasts a few days and will leave your face smooth, clear, and rejuvenated.

IPL Photofacial is generally a comfortable procedure, although some patients may experience a slight burning sensation, which can be easily alleviated with a fan. The potential side effects are generally mild and can include redness, irritation, and peeling. It will be crucial for you to protect your skin from the sun for at least 48 hours after your procedure.
